ESSA Law: A "Well-Rounded Education Includes Arts"

The new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which replaces and updates No Child Left Behind, "rolls back much of the federal government's big footprint in education policy, on everything from testing and teacher quality to low-performing schools." (Zubrzycki, 2015. Edweek.org )  One key shift from NCLB to ESSA is the inclusion of arts in the definition of a "well-rounded" education.

The Every Student Succeeds Act takes full effect in the 2017-18 school year. Americans for the Arts is presenting two webinars to help educators unpack ESSA policies:
